The Challenge

Friends of the Virgin Islands National Park is a non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the protection and preservation of the Virgin Islands National Park—a natural and cultural resource of extraordinary significance. They needed a creative partner who could work across multiple platforms and formats to support their education, outreach, and conservation mission.

Our Approach

Through our partnership with Young Mind Interactive, Dangerous Media became a full-service creative resource for the organization. Rather than a single project, this is an ongoing relationship spanning character design, mobile app development, print production, web content, and social media—all unified under a consistent visual language that makes conservation engaging and accessible.

  • Original character design, including Ranger Hawksbill, to connect with younger audiences
  • Development of the Ranger Hawksbill App with interactive educational content
  • Website content support and ongoing updates
  • Social media content creation and management
  • Print materials including brochures, maps, and educational handouts
  • Interactive design production for digital and physical installations

Ranger Hawksbill

At the center of our creative work is Ranger Hawksbill—an original character designed to serve as a friendly guide to the park’s wildlife, history, and ecosystems. The character appears across every touchpoint: in the mobile app, on the website, in printed materials, and throughout social media content. This consistency gives the organization a recognizable identity that resonates with families and young visitors.

The Ranger Hawksbill App brings the character to life with interactive content that educates users about the park’s hawksbill sea turtles, coral reefs, and tropical ecosystems. The app serves as both a pre-visit planning tool and an on-site companion, giving visitors a richer understanding of what they’re experiencing.

Multi-Platform Production

Conservation organizations often struggle with fragmented messaging across their various channels. We solved this by establishing a unified design system that carries through every deliverable—from the website to social posts to the printed trail guides visitors pick up at the park entrance. Every piece reinforces the same brand, the same tone, and the same mission.
